Liverpool reacted to AC Milan interest in Dejan Lovren, set price tag

Gianluca di Marzio reported this week that AC Milan were weighing up an approach for the Croatian as the Italian giants undergo a series of changes.

 According to Times, Liverpool will only begin to even consider selling Dejan Lovren if they receive a £25million for the defender.



Milan are set to make Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo their new manager after Gennaro Gattuso left his role as head coach after missing out on Champions League qualification despite having two years left on his contract.

Ahead of Giampaolo, Frederic Massara is expected to become the club’s new sporting director after Leonardo also resigned.

Former Roma chief Massara is reported to have held interest in Lovren while at the Stadio Olympic and could recommend the player at Milan.

The Times say Liverpool have yet to receive any contact from the Serie A side regarding the 29-year-old centre-back.






But it is claimed the Croatia international’s sale would not even be considered by the Merseyside outfit until bids were received in the region of £25m.


It is said that Liverpool have no desire to push Lovren - who was an unused substitute in the Champions League final - away despite the fact he is only an understudy in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Lovren has made 170 appearances, scoring seven goals, in his five seasons at Liverpool since a £20m switch from Southampton in 2014.

He was kept out of the team by Joe Gomez in the first half of last season and when injury afforded him an opportunity to play alongside Virgil van Dijk, Lovren suffered his own fitness issues with Joel Matip then seeing out the bulk of the second-half of the campaign.

Lovren’s contract - which earns him in the region of £100,000-a-week - does not run out until the summer of 2021 but Liverpool have the option to extend his deal by another year.
