New York Schools Will Remain Closed For Rest Of Academic Year - Cuomo

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo directed in a press conference on Friday that New York schools will remain closed for the rest of the academic year.


NY has around 1,000 new coronavirus cases still being diagnosed per day in the state despite a decline in the number of new infections.







Given the current situation, K-12 schools and colleges will remain closed and distance learning for their 4.2 million students will continue for the remainder of the academic year, Cuomo announced.



"We’re going to err on the side of caution," he said.


A decision on summer school programs will be made at the end of this month, Cuomo said, adding that there would need to be more of a sustained drop or stabilization in the infection rate for that to be allowed.







Although the state continues to see a flattening curve with the number of new coronavirus infections on the decline, there are still nearly 1,000 new cases being reported everyday.


Cuomo also praised New Yorkers for their efforts so far, citing data showing that without social distancing, another 100,000 people in the state would have been hospitalized.
