Abia State Government Signed Agreement With World Bank, A Project Worth N27.2 Billion

Abia State Government have Signed an Agreement With the World Bank, for the commencement of the N27.2 Billion In Aba.


According to the Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Solomon Ogunji, the project’s tag 'CONSTRUCTION OF FLOOD MITIGATION WORKS AT UMUAGBAI AND URATTA FLOOD PLAINS IN ABA MUNICIPALITY'.


"Finally, I am very happy and proud to announce that just this afternoon, the Ministry of Environment and the Abia State Government have signed an Agreement with the World Bank for the commencement of the N27.2 Billion Project in Aba.


"We expect ground breaking to take place any moment from now. The project includes the most ambitious water management project ever done in the history of our State with Ngwa Road and other areas expected to be fixed", Ogunji said.



According  to him,  the Contractor is -HARTLAND/NBHH JV. It is a joint venture between HARTLAND NIG LTD and NBHH of UAE.


He further outlined the Scope of work -
A. Construction of 2.65km of underground tunnel from Uratta Pond (Uratta by Port Harcourt Road) through Port Harcourt Road to Ngwa Road by Obohia Road.

B. Construction of 6.5km underground tunnel from Umuagbai Pond (borrow pit) at Owerre Aba along Obohia Road to pass along Obohia Road to Ngwa Road.

C. The tunnels from Uratta and Obohia will join and proceed along Ngwa Road to the Aba River.

D. Total reconstruction of Obohia Road with side drains that discharge into the tunnel

E. Total reconstruction of Ngwa Road with side drains

F. Total reconstruction of sections of Uratta Road and Port Harcourt Road from Uratta Junction to Ngwa Road junctions.

G. Full bioremediation of the inlet areas of Umuagbai and Uratta Ponds.

Project is fully funded by Abia State Government and the world bank. A Contract worth the sum of N27.4 billion.
