Coronavirus: Prepare for more spread – WHO warns Africa
The World Health Organization, WHO, has warned African countries to organize for the worst as coronavirus cases increase within the continent.
So far 233 cases of the deadly virus had been registered in Sub-Saharan Africa which makes it the least-affected region during a global pandemic.
Speaking to journalists during a virtual press conference on Wednesday, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General said Africa must awaken as official numbers of COVID-19 cases don't likely reflect the complete picture.
Tedros warned that numbers of positive cases could proportion quickly if care isn't taken.
'Till date quite 200,000 people are and quite 8,000 killed with Africa because the least affected.
'Africa should awaken, Probably we've undetected cases or unreported cases.
'Even if there truly were no quite 233 cases of the disease in Africa, he warned that that number could proportion quickly.
'In other countries, we've seen how the virus actually accelerates after a particular tipping point, therefore the best advice for Africa is to organize for the worst and prepare today
'WHO’s recommendation is really that mass gatherings should be avoided.'
